Jags and stealth rolling

Whipped out the pencil last Sunday night whilst half watching Upstairs Downstairs. Elaine was out for the count so I got the coloured pencils too. The poor lighting in the living room is getting the blame this time for me unwittingly giving her a rather jaundiced/orange look. She woke up before I could fix it.
11th March

On Wednesday she got the second round of immunization jags. Despite getting one in each leg she barely cried at all. She slept a lot for the rest of the day. This is her in the car seat.

Today she's rolled (twice!) for the first time from her back to her front and I missed it both times! I was there - in one case I was right next to her but had my back to her (staring at the evil TV, doh!). When I turned she was on her stomach. Stealth rolling. I've been trying to creep up on her to see her do it but it hasn't happened again.
Tonight the rest of the family and virtually all the salon staff are at the Runway fashion show while I'm left here with baby. Going to try to use the time productively and do some sewing. Will not be distracted by the ridiculous chat on 'Take me out'...no, I won't!

    1. We're going to have to move the tv out of the living room sometime soon because.its such a zombie maker. Managed to catch that German comedian on radio bbc 2 last night...not too bad! Weird accent though!

  2. Alison, I love your baby sketches! Our granddaughter is 8 months old tomorrow and I can remember how excited we were when she started rolling over. Now we're trying to get her to crawl instead of rolling everywhere!

Keep up the drawing! You have a knack for capturing babies. I haven't tried sketching my granddaughter (Audrey) because I'm afraid the results might be an insult to her! Hee, hee!

  3. Thanks for the kind comment, Lisa. I only post the reasonable drawings of Elaine; some in my sketchbook are real shockers! But even the technically bad drawings evoke memories of a time/place/how I was feeling at that moment so that will hopefully keep me going! Plus I think she'll enjoy having a laugh at them in years to come.

  4. OK, you are going to think me a NUT, but I just left a comment on this picture at TMC, and on the unfinished sketch I loved that the only shading was on her little face. BUT than I linked here, and now I love how you left the face as was (I think) and darkened the rest. It was helpful for me to see the different effects of dark and light on the same focal point. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Nuts is ok! (nuts are ok?!) I could've done the shading better but she woke up and I don't have the necessary patience anyway. Plus I've ruined a few pics - especially watercolor attempts -by doing too much. Thanks for both comments!
